The National Monuments Service's description

Roofless rectangular structure (int: 3.0m NW-SE; 2.4m NE-SW; wall thickness 0.6m) c. 0.3 km NE of Martello Tower (CO128-014---) on Bear Island. Shown on OS 6-inch map (1842) as Battery No. 4 in square ordnance grounds. Ground and 1st floor door in NE wall. Series of gun loops in 1st floor wall. Remains of another structure attached to SE wall. Arc of low stone wall to NE (c. 5.6m).
