The National Monuments Service's description

On a terrace on a S-facing slope, now occupied by Cahermore R.C. church, and with extensive views over the mouth of Bantry Bay. According to local tradition, Cahermore (Cathair Mór) got its name from a cashel which once existed in the general area, where the church now stands. This possible cashel is not visible at ground level.

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).
