The National Monuments Service's description
After Timoleague friary was plundered by English forces in 1612 (Gwynn and Hadcock 1988, 260) it began to be used as a burial ground by local people (Wholley 1986, 4). Except for the N cloister range all interior of friary used for burials so that ground level now much higher than original. Modern extension to graveyard to N. The 18th century gaelic poet Sean O Coileain is buried here.
