The National Monuments Service's description

In overgrown field to S of farmyard. Indicated on OS 6-inch map (1842) by dotted square. No visible surface trace. Stone wall to W of site. Locally known as "castle wall". According to O'Donoghue (1986, 110) and Healy (1988, 234), MacCarthy Reagh Castle.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
