The National Monuments Service's description
In pasture, on a SE-facing slope. A slightly horseshoe-shaped spread (10.2m E-W; 6.05m N-S) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil was discovered during topsoil stripping in advance of the construction of the Ballincollig-Ballineen gas pipeline and excavated in 2000. The perimeter of the spread was emphasised by a layer of ash which extended from under it. A central subrectangular trough (2.17m x 1.73m; D 0.5m) in the centre of the spread had been cut through the burnt material into the subsoil. It was filled with grey silt, had a basal layer of charcoal and showed some evidence of stone lining on its S side. A second possible subcircular trough (2.04m E-W; 1.54m N-S; D 0.91m), filled with silt and with a deposit of iron pan at its base, was found on the SW extremity of the spread. A possible burnt mound (CO109-100----) lies 1.7m to the W. (Tobin 2001; 2002h, 47-8)
