The National Monuments Service's description

In a graveyard (CO107-035001-), on the S side of the Main Street in Dunmanway. According to Brady (1863, vol. 1, 100), St Mary's Church of Ireland church (CO107-035004-), which is in S half of the graveyard, was built 'on ancient site'. The rectangular graveyard (c. 80m N-S; c. 65m E-W) is enclosed by a stone wall (H 1.6m; T 0.4m) and is still in use. The occasional chest tombs and the many headstones date from 1821 onwards, the older burials being to the S of the church. There are no visible remains of any earlier church in the graveyard. St Mary's Church of Ireland church was built in 1821 and a tower was later added to its W end (Lewis 1837, vol. 1, 586). There are memorials dating to the early 18th century in the interior.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
