Megalithic tomb - wedge tomb

Within a coniferous forest (planted 1991) on the W-facing slope of the upper reaches of the Barony River valley with views to the SE and S along the valley to Glengarriff Harbour. The remains consist of a collapsed gallery (L 2.6m; Wth c. 1.1m), aligned E-W. The N and S sides are each formed by single thin slabs which have fallen inwards and their tops rest against each other; the E end is closed by a backstone. Two transversely set, jamb-like stones front the W end of the gallery leaving an entrance gap of 0.55m. Immediately W of the S jamb are two uprights which, together with a corresponding almost prostrate slab to the N, indicate a portico arrangement at this end (L 1.1m). The gallery was covered by two roofstones. The first (1.3m x 0.95m; T 0.1-0.15m) lies immediately E of the S jamb and partially overlaps the second (2.65m x > 1.5m; T 0.12-0.15m) which covers the remainder of the gallery. Another wedge tomb (CO091-014003-) is located c. 900m to the SW and a third (CO091-010007-) is visible across the valley 1.4km to the WNW.
