The National Monuments Service's description
A relatively tall narrow structure is indicated on the Down Survey (1655-6) Barony map in the general area now occupied by Ballycotton townland. The structure appears to have three radial lines extending from its top, probably depicting rays of light. The structure may have been a lighthouse. There are no visible remains of this structure in the general Ballycotton area.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).
