The National Monuments Service's description
Coleman (1894, 35) and Power (1923, 202) both recorded a burial ground on Michael Mahony's land in Walterstown. A 'vast number of bones' were found there (Coleman 1894, 35) and both sources suggest that the dead were those slain at a battle. The precise location of this burial ground is not known though Power noted that it was in the vicinity of a holy well (CO088-006----).
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).
