The National Monuments Service's description
According to local information, a house known as 'Baldwin's Castle' once stood here. In demesne of early 19th century Lissardagh House. 1842 OS 6-inch map indicates long narrow building (long axis E-W) on the site. The site is on a high knoll much of which was quarried c. 1969 and now only foundations of walls may be seen in the quarry face. Farm building c. 25 m to NE (with walled garden adjacent) named 'kennel' on 1842 OS 6-inch map; on one of its walls is set a D-shaped stone, bearing the inscription 'SEQUARE ME EST VOLUNTASDEI' (to follow me is the will of God), which is thought locally to have come from 'Baldwin's castle' (Healy 1988, 59). According to owner, Lissardagh House built in 1820s by Baldwin who moved in late 19th century to new Lissardagh House c. 650m to W giving the name Lissardagh Cottage to the former.
