This site appears to be incorrectly marked on 1842 OS 6-inch map; correct location is locally regarded to be c. 120m further N. In level pasture to W of road. No visible surface grace of grave yard. Upright stone (H 1.6m), standing in roadside field fence, and recently erected plaque (bearing name of graveyard) now indicates position of site. O'Donoghue (1986, 253) translated the townland name as 'Cill na Romhanach - Church of the Romans'. According to Hourihane and Hourihane (1979, 71), the name Kilnaravanagh referred 'in all probability to those who adopted the Roman calender' for the determination of Easter, in the 630s AD.
