The National Monuments Service's description
In a quarry, in a field named 'Parknakilla' on the 1900-1901 OS 6-inch map. This souterrain is visible in section in the S face of the quarry. It consists of at least three stone-built chambers. Chamber 1 (min. L 1.8m; Wth 1m; H c. 0.4m) is orientated N-S and extends into the quarry face. Its W side is of drystone-walling and its E side comprises one upright slab and some loose stones. Its S end is blocked by one large stone but it is not clear if this is the end wall or a collapsed lintel. One large roof lintel remains in situ, covering the entire remains of the chamber. The lintel is c. 1m below present ground level. Chamber 2 lies to the E of chamber 1 and is orientated E-W along the quarry face but only two upright slabs (combined length 1.1m) of its N wall and two roof lintels are visible. Chamber 3 lies to the E of Chamber 2 and appears to be orientated NE-SW. Only two upright slabs, probably part of its E wall, are visible. Chambers 1 and 2 are partially filled with earth and gravel.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).
