The National Monuments Service's description
In uneven-surfaced ground with occasional ridges of outcropping rock on an E-facing hillslope of Coornahahilly Mountain, within a coniferous forest. A ridge of outcropping rock runs in a general E-W direction. A slab (H 1.2m; 2.8m x 0.35m) has broken from the S face of the outcropping rock and leans slightly to the N as it decreases in height from W to E. A wedge-shaped chamber (Wth 0.5m; H 1.2m at the WSW open end; Wth 0.25m; H 0.22m at the closed ENE end) is formed by a second upright slab (H 1.2m; 1.85m x 0.15m) also sloping down to the ENE. A triangular portion of the lower W end of this slab has broken off but remains in situ accompanied by other smaller stones. The roof, sloping down to the ENE, consists of three smaller slabs (Wth 0.65m, 0.75m and 0.45m respectively). An arrangement of stones outside the entrance to the chamber suggests a modification for use as an animal shelter.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).
