The National Monuments Service's description
In pasture, to the E of the fortified house known as Ballyannan Castle (CO076-020003-). The site of the ancient parish church and graveyard (CO076-020005-) of Mogeesha is shown on the Down Survey (1655-6) map in the location later occupied by the fortified house. Power (1923, 186) noted that 'there are absolutely no remains' of the church or gravyeard. The location of the church and graveyard has been identified by Paul MacCotter (pers. comm.) and it consists of a small triangular plateau (L 34m, 36m and 30m on E, W and S sides, respectively). There are no visible remains of the church.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
