The National Monuments Service's description
Stone-built circular tower built in 1836 by Fr. Matthew Horgan (Mulcahy 1989b, 27), just SE of RC Chapel completed in 1817. Finely carved Hiberno-Romanesque style doorway, modelled on Nun's Chapel, Clonmacnoise; several window opes with rounded and triangular heads; top enclosed by parapet wall. Tower designed by John Windele (Windele 1844, 246); intended to be higher; taper towards top due to abrupt finishing after project ran out of money (ibid, 28). Similar tower at Whitechurch (CO063-095----).
