The National Monuments Service's description
In NW quadrant of ringfort (8339). Coleman (1947, 70) described sub-rectangular earth-cut chamber (long axis N-S; L 8ft 8in; Wth 3ft; H 3ft 10in); creepway at SW corner to chamber 2:(long axis E-W; L 6ft 6in; Wth 3ft 6in; H 3ft); both partially filled with earth and stones. Infilled stone-built passage (L 22ft 4in; Wth 1ft 10in; H 18in) extends eastwards from N end of chamber 1, visible on surface as depression with four slabs exposed. Coleman suggests oval-shaped depression at E end of passage is original entrance; chamber 1 entered by Coleman through deliberate opening at NW end. Coleman (ibid. also noted hollow (diam. 5ft) with traces of stone walling on its W side, c. 7ft to S 'as remains of a further chamber or of some other structure (such as a hut site)'. Entrance now closed.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
