The National Monuments Service's description

Mid/late 19th-century roofless square tower (3.25m NW-SE; 3.25m NE-SW); one-storey with high parapet wall. On top of a man-made mound on high ground overlooking Dripsey River to N and Clonmoyle House (9647) further to N. Four tall stone arched opes (top of arches collapsed) in each of ground floor walls above which are occuli on SE and SW walls. Fireplace in E corner; parapet wall coped with oversailing stones. According to local information, built to commemorate the death of member of Colthurst family at Battle of Trafalgar.
