The National Monuments Service's description

In levelled ringfort (CO060-151001-). Coleman (1945, 112-3), described an entrance in N portion of ringfort with 'series of hollows on a line curving SE and E apparently marking a sunken trench entrance to the actual mouth of the souterrain'. He noted 'debris slope' leading into passage (long axis N-S; L 10ft), upper levels of walls stone-built atop earth-cut base, roofed with slabs; earth-cut creephole (H 1ft 8in; Wth 1ft 7in) at N end. This leads to second passage similar to first (long axis N-S; L c. 6ft). Passage opens into stone-built elliptical chamber (max. H 4ft 3in; Wth 4ft; long axis NE-SW) roofed with slabs. Small lintelled creephole at NE end leads to circular earth-cut chamber (H 3ft 4in). McCarthy (1977, 198) noted that second passage was destroyed by bulldozer in May 1959. No visible surface trace.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
