In pasture, in SE quadrant of possible early ecclesiastical enclosure (CO060-075001-). Roughly circular area (diam. c. 43m) defined by substantial earthen bank (int. H 1.8m) with deep, flat-bottomed external fosse and counterscarp bank (H 1m). Bank stone-faced in parts; top of bank replaced by earth and stone field fence ESE->S, fence continues along outer edge of bank top elsewhere. Counterscarp bank disturbed ESE->S where fosse almost completely filled in. Causewayed gap in bank to NW. Interior slopes down to SE; crossed by remains of cultivation ridges; much of SE half occupied by shallow saucer-shaped depression. Possible souterrain (CO060-075003-) under NE bank; second possible souterrain (CO060-075004-) outside NE bank.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
