The National Monuments Service's description

To NE of centre in graveyard (CO046-039001-), ivy-clad remains of rectangular church (16.3m E-W; 6.95m N-S); very little of W half survives except for NW corner. Window ope near E end of S wall, missing light. Wall press on E side of window in S wall at E end of same wall. Central window in E gable; segmental arch over embrasure; unusual stepped head to light (flat top with right-angle shoulders); N jamb gone. Probably remains of Templebelagh parish church, in ruins by 1615 (Brady 1863, vol. 1, 349). Lewis (1837, vol. 2, 375) mentions a church in Templevally 'erected by the Knights Templars in 1302' but no other record of such a foundation (Gwynn and Hadcock 1988, 327-31).

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
