The National Monuments Service's description
Traces of the foundations of an earlier structure, possibly a church, were uncovered under the E wall of the nave of Ballynoe church (vol. 2, no. 5613) during excavations there in 1995 (Cotter 1996a, 6; 2002c, 110).
