Ringfort - rath

In pasture, on E-facing slope. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure on 1842 OS 6-inch map; W half indicated on 1904 OS 6-inch map; circular area defined by hachured scarp NNW->S and by solid line elsewhere on 1938 OS 6-inch map. Circular area (34m E-W; 30m N-S) defined by low rise NW->SSW; earthen bank (int. H 2.05m; ext. H 1.5m) incorporated into field boundary system SSW->NW. Bank heavily overgrown; stone facing on inner face similar to surrounding field fences. Interior grass-covered; W half level; E half slopes down to E. Fosse, NW->SSW, visible as cropmark in aerial photograph (GSIAP, W1). Probably ringfort recorded by Bowman (1934, 600) as single-ramparted (diam. c. 33yd; bank H 4 to 7ft) with 'half the circuit levelled' and named 'Lisin na Cairrge - Little fort of the Rock - so-called from being near a large rock'.
