The National Monuments Service's description
McCarthy (1991, 89), quoting from the UCD Schools Folklore Survey, recorded the tradition that mass was celebrated 'on a flat green space of mountain (Con O'Brien's land). The Mass-stone was still (1938) to be seen in a nearby cliff to where it had been removed. The mountain opposite was called Gleantán 'a gCapall because those who came to Mass, tied their horses here and crossed the river to Mass'. Exact location not known.
