The National Monuments Service's description

In pasture, on SE-facing slope, W of Owenbaun River. Roughly circular area (44m WNW-ESE; 32m NNE-SSW) enclosed by scarp (H 0.8m); external fosse (D 0.7m); outer earthen bank (H 1.2m). Break (Wth 2m) in bank to NW with causeway; gaps to E, ESE and SSW. Interior saucer-shaped possibly indicating former existence of a now levelled bank. Field fence running WNW-ESE truncates NNE side of enclosure. Broker (1937, 48) states that 'part of fort levelled'; he records 'one wide fence with moat inside and outside'. Aerial photograph taken April 1994 shows ringfort and surrounding field fences levelled (pers. comm. Dr D.D.C. Pochin Mould).

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
