The National Monuments Service's description

Depicted on 1842 OS 6-inch map as section of laneway widening to a width of c. 30m for c. 20m, with limekiln outside NE corner; as roughly square area (c. 25m N-S; c. 25m E-W) bisected diagonally (NW-SE) by roadway on 1904 and 1938 OS 6-inch maps. Arc formed by earthen bank (H 1.3m) survives NNE->E on NE side of roadway; interior slightly raised, overgrown with deciduous trees and brambles. Section of enclosure to SW of roadway heavily overgrown; stone wall appears to use line of eroded bank as a revetment. According to Broker (1937, 46), fort on Mat Murphy's land, '1/2 acre public road through it now and half ring on both sides'. Possible souterrain (8995) in interior.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
