The National Monuments Service's description
Bowman (1934, 638) recorded levelled fort on J. Aherne's land, in Firville demesne; site now occupied by an artificial lake. Most of land surrounding lake, c. 100m to W of house, has been landscaped; lake lined with stone blocks on inner face of S side; section of earthen bank remaining to S may be remains of original bank or could also be earth dumped here during construction of pond. Pond not maintained and partially overgrown.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
