The National Monuments Service's description
On E side of Awbeg River limestone gorge, S of Castletownroche. One of three caves (9807, 0909) investigated in 1938 and 1940 (Gwynn et al. 1942); listed by Dowd (1997, 31) as 'Main Earth'. Large chamber (L15m; Wth 4m) high up in gorge piercing W extremity of projecting spur; entrance at each end. Two trenches opened, one inside, second across N entrance. Only superficial deposits excavated which produced recent fauna, fragments of charcoal and oyster shell.
