The National Monuments Service's description
In the 13th century a rent of '12d from the dovecot' at 'BalymcChynin [sic: apparently Kilmaclenine]' is recorded in the accounts of the bishopric of Cloyne in the Irish Exchequer Pipe Rolls (MacCotter and Nicholls 1996, 249).The precise location of this dovecote is not known but is is probably in the vicinity of the deserted medieval settlement (CO024-052001-) of Kilmaclenine. The borough of Kilmaclenine was founded by the Bishop of Cloyne c. 1238 (Otway-Ruthven 1980, 117).
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).
