In demesne of Ballygiblin House (14853). Former C of I parish church of Castlemagner. Shown on 1842 and 1905 OS 6-inch maps as rectangular ruin (c. 22m E-W; c. 8m N-S) with a projection (c. 8m N-S; c. 8m E-W) near E end of N wall, and named 'Monastery (in ruins)'; similarly depicted on 1937 OS 6-inch map but named 'Church (in ruins)'. Entire structure removed during quarry operations in 1957/58. Photograph in Grove White (1905-25 vol. 1, opp. 172) shows ruin with ivy covering upper part; random-rubble construction; possibly two pointed lights in E gable; projection to N visible. According to local tradition intended to replace Castlemagner Church (14405), but never completed (Lewis 1837, vol. 1, 303). Bowman (1934, 52) refers to it as 'a ruined Protestant church', and noted local tradition that it went out of use when new church built at Castlemagner (14405). Latin inscription on door jamb read "DO. DV. IN DEI NOMINE AMEN 1613" (Grove White, ibid., 181).
