The National Monuments Service's description
In flat marsh land. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map, on N side of small pond; as hachured circular raised area (diam. c. 20m) on 1905 and 1937 OS 6-inch maps, with pond truncating S side. Irregular shaped platform (24m ENE-WSW; 18m SSE-NNW) on N side of pond; scarp (H 0.9m) forming arc defines NW side; remainder irregular in outline; short section of external fosse (L 6 - 8m; D 0.4m; Wth 3m) survives to SE, where site meets pond. Surface undulations noted in E half of interior. According to local information, pond cleaned out c. 1950s; material from dredging may have been dumped on enclosure, which may explain irregular nature of site.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
