This ford is referred to in the 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork - vol. 4 North Cork' (2000, 604) under the entry (no. 14697) for a ford (CO023-105----). This ford is referred to as follows: Marked on 1842 OS 6-inch map as 'Chieftain's Ford' further south along river (c. 1.1km to SSW) on boundary between Rathmaher and Lackaleigh townlands.
