The National Monuments Service's description
Remains of overgrown late 17th/early 18th century 1-storey house, on NW bank of Awbeg River, immediately NW of clapper bridge (14839). Indicated on 1842 OS 6-inch map, as 'Water Ho.'; marked as 'in ruins' on 1902 OS 6-inch map. L-shaped in plan, SW arm longer than SE. Most of inner wall faces collapsed. Remains of 3 opes in external SE wall and 2 opes in external SW wall. NW pier of bridge butts onto E corner of house, suggesting an association between house and bridge. Large fireplace with wooden lintel in SW arm, divides area into two rooms; fireplace contains brick-lined oven (0.88m x 1.22m). Corner fireplace in S corner of L, and possible remains of another corner fireplace in N corner of NW arm. Springfield House (14849) on river bank opposite to SE.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
