Bowman (1934, 626) recorded grass-covered mounds in ringfort (12488) as the remains of a church; 'Cillin Chronain - Saint Cronan's little church...in the sub-division of Cnoc a theampaill and is responsible for the parish name' (Knocktemple). No visible surface trace of mounds or church. Church in Knocktemple was in ruins in 1615 (Brady 1863, vol. 2, 297).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
