The National Monuments Service's description
On N-facing slope, c. 600m NE of Awbeg River. No visible surface trace of castle. According to local tradition (Grove White 1905-25, vol. 3, 186), 'stones of the old castle were used in building Castle Harrison house'. Castle of the Roches (Healy 1988, 305), reputedly destroyed in 17th century (ibid.).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
