The National Monuments Service's description
In centre of graveyard (14584). Remains of former C of I parish church of Kilbolane. Shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map as rectangular structure (long axis NW-SE) with central projection at NW end; similarly depicted on 1904 OS 6-inch map with addition to NE. Outline of foundation of church evident (14m E-W; 8m N-S). Short section of walling on SE side remains supporting 18th-century Synan headstone. Embedded in wall above headstone is a slab, of 18th-century appearance, inscribed: "This is burial place of Synans 1442", which was found during construction of church (Mac Lir 1896, 523-4)- it was reported missing in 1987 (MacCarthy 1987, 109-110). Church rebuilt 1829-1834 (Grove White 1905-25, vol. 3, 218-9); described by Lewis (1837, vol. 2, 53) as 'a neat church, with square tower'; according to local information, church knocked in 1928. Built on or near site of medieval parish church of Kilbolane which was listed in Papal Taxation of 1291.
