The National Monuments Service's description

Bridging the Owenogarney or Ratty River, this bridge is dated to the early 17th century. It’s name is used for the town, Sixmilebridge (CL052-016001-) which grew up around it and apparently refers to the distance from Thomondgate in Limerick as noted by Dineley in 1681. It’s importance declined when later bridges were built at Rossmanagher and Bunratty.
