Megalithic structure

The National Monuments Service's description

In generally level, rough pasture, with rock outcrop close to the surface and a low drystone field boundary close to S and E. Described by Westropp (1902-04, No. 10a, 100) as a ‘slab resting on smaller slabs. Perhaps natural’. De Valera and Ó Nualláin (1961, no. 24, 96) describe the structure as a, ‘Slab 2.2m maximum dimension resting on several smaller stones and a second slab 2.6m maximum dimension [is] 3m south of it. Though the first-mentioned slab may be artificially placed, similar slabs, more or less displaced from the natural strata, are frequent in the area and thus the site cannot be accepted as a megalithic tomb’. Depicted and named as ‘Cromlech’ on the 1921 edition OS 6-inch map. Not visible at ground level. A number of large stones are located within a small haggard adjacent to E and have been deposited here haphazardly along with other field clearance stones of different shapes and sizes. The site of three other megalithic structures (CL035-045001-, CL035-045002- and CL035-045005-) are close to N, NE and W, respectively and the site of a cairn (CL035-045004-) is to W.
