Ringfort - cashel

On a N-facing slope with limited views. Hachured on the 1840 and 1916 eds. of the OS 6-inch maps. Listed as ‘enclosure’ in the RMP (1996). Described by Westropp (1905, 209) as ‘much levelled’.
An almost circular cashel (est. dims. 36m N-S; 35.6m E-W) defined by a double-faced stone wall (Wth 1.7-2.5m; int. H 0.3-0.5m; ext. H 1-1.6m) with a rubble core. The core material has been removed from SW to NW and some of it has been placed on top of the wall-faces. A drystone wall has been built along the outer wall-face from N to E. Gaps at E and NW are not original. Apart from dense external scrub between N and E, the wall is clear of overgrowth. The remains of an 18th/19th-century house (CL016-091003-) are visible immediately outside it at SW and the further remains of three similar houses (CL016-091002-, CL016-091004- and CL016-091005-) are located and c. 15m to the W, c. 53m to the WNW and c. 54m to the NW respectively.
