The National Monuments Service's description
Situated close to the W shore of Lough Atorick. A small island (diam. c. 15m) some 35m from the edge of the lake is visible in a Google Earth satellite image taken on 5 April 2006. A reference to a crannog with a zig-zag causeway in Lough Atorick in the National Folklore Collection (https://www.duchas.ie/en/cbes/4583310/4578504) reads: 'There is a lake in Loughatorick about one mile from where I live. A part of it is County Clare and a part of it in County Galway. There's about one acre of an island in this lake/ it is covered with shrubs and trees/ it is also that the Cranneog is round this island/ when people are out in boats on a clear day it can be seen/ it is in a very shallow part of the lake. Some of the stones can be seen to the present day. The path going in to this Cranneog is zig zag.' The small island visible on the satellite image may be the crannog in question. The reference in the National Folklore Collection was reported to the National Monuments Service by Micheál MacGearailt.
