The National Monuments Service's description
Situated in the N half of the inner enclosure at Cahercommaun (CL010-064003-) and conjoined with another hut site at E (Hencken 1938, 2, structure 6; CL010-064090-). A curvilinear house (diam. 7m) with a hearth (Hencken 1938, 2, structure 5) forming part of a cellular complex. Hencken (ibid., 2) noted that this structure was occupied by people ‘secondary to the chief’ but of only slightly less importance. From the point of view of attack this was the safest part of the fort possibly explaining why the principal dwellings where located there (Cotter 1999, 66). A large hearth between this house and the wall of the enclosure may have been associated with another structure (Hencken, Structure 5A). Cahercommaun is a national monument in State care. (Hencken 1938, 1-81; Cotter 1999, 41-95)
