Cairn - burial cairn

Near the summit of the semi-karst Glasgeivnagh Hill commanding wide views, with land falling steeply to a cliff c. 65m to the E. In rough pasture within a large multiperiod field system (CL010-064001-). Hachured and in an area named ‘Carns’ on the 1897 OS 25-inch plan and the 1920 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. This is one of a cluster of 9 cairns along this hilltop (see also CL010-064027-, CL010-064028-, CL010-064029-, CL010-064030-, CL010-064031-, CL010-064032-, CL010-064033- and CL010-064-088-). This partly grass-covered subcircular cairn (7m E-W; 5.8m N-S; H 0.7-1.4m) has spilled out at the N, S and W. However, kerbstones (H 0.2-0.6m) are visible continuously around its edge from SE to SW, and intermittently along the rest of the perimeter. The centre is partly hollowed out, indicating that the cairn has been robbed. Westropp (1913, 247) recorded kerbstones (av. L 1.22; H 0.61-0.91m) all around the cairn, and an opened and partly filled central cist (CL010-064108-).
