Megalithic tomb - wedge tomb

The National Monuments Service's description

On a SE-facing slope in pasture and hazel scrub, within a multiperiod field system (CL009-059001-). Listed as ‘Cist’ in the RMP (1996), following de Valera and Ó Nualláin’s (1961, 43; see attached) interpretation of the monument as a divided/double cist, probably influenced by ‘true megalithic chambers’. A small wedge tomb (L 3.4m; Wth at WSW 0.9m, narrowing to 0.8m at ENE; max. H 0.8m) embedded in the centre of a grass-covered oval mound (c. 5m ENE-WSW; c. 3m NNW-SSE; H c. 1m). The tomb chamber comprises two parallel ENE-WSW rows of limestone slabs (0.9m apart at W, 0.8m apart at E), set upright on their long edges. There are two stones on the N side (W stone L 1.3m; H 0.3m; T 0.1m; E stone L 1.4m; H 0.6m; T 0.2m), with a 0.2m gap between them. There are four stones on the S side, three of which are set close together (W stone L 0.6m; H 0.1m; T 0.1m; central stone L 0.15m; Wth 0.1m; H 0.1m; E stone L 1.25m; H 0.2m; T 0.05m). A fourth coaligned slab lies c. 0.75m to the WSW. A transverse slab (L 0.7m; H 0.25m; T 0.1m) was set upright on its long edge across the chamber (i.e., oriented NNW-SSE), 0.8m from the ENE end. The possible continuation of the tomb in that direction may have been damaged by a NNW-SSE field bank.

A wedge tomb (CL009-059094-) lies c. 13m to the SW and another wedge tomb (CL009-162----) lies c. 15m to N.
