The National Monuments Service's description
This grass-covered mound (17.4m NW-SE; 9.5m NE-SW; max. H 1.4m) appears to have been originally horseshoe-shaped in plan with a central depression and trough opening to the SW. The SW end of both arms were levelled some years ago and the mound appears to have extended a further 6.5m in that direction. A NW-SE running field wall overlies the surviving remains and NE of it the mound is revetted by a line of large boulders. Within the central depression (4.5m NW–SE; c. 3m NE-SW), the rectangular trough (dims. 0.9-1m by 0.7m) is aligned ESE. It is well defined on the W, N and E sides by stones with straight edges but the S side is not clear and is occupied by a jumble of stones. The fill comprised hard clay and stones with no evidence of burning. The mound itself is composed of a mix of very friable small limestones and some larger unburnt stones in a black clay matrix. An enclosure (CL009-021024-) lies c. 20m to the SW. There is a dense concentration of enclosures, houses, hut sites, cairns and associated field boundaries of probable prehistoric date in this area (Grant 2010, 47).
