Ringfort - cashel

The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on an elevated plateau of undulating pasture, on ground sloping slightly down to E, within a large field system (CL009-001001-). Hachured as a subcircular enclosure on the OS 25-inch map (1897) and on the 1916 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the RMP (1996).
A subcircular cashel (int. dims. 29.2m N–S; c. 28m E–W) defined by a stone wall (Wth 2.5–3.7m; H 0.4–1m). The cashel entrance (ext. Wth 0.8m; int. Wth 0.7m) is at the WNW and is lined by large stones (max. H 0.8m).

There is a small cairn (4.8m E–W; 3.4m N–S; H 0.2–0.4m) at the centre of the cashel. Several overgrown raised features (L c. 4–8m; Wth 1–3.1m; H 0.3-0.7m) arranged in curved lines form a suboval shape (int. diam. c. 15m E–W; c. 10m N–S) around the cairn; these may be spoil heaps or wall remnants.
The remains of a rectilinear house of indeterminate date (CL009-001036-) lie inside the cashel wall at N.

A later drystone wall was built on top of the cashel wall, generally over its outer facing. This drystone wall survives upright from W to SE.

Other cashels lie c. 140m to the SSE (CL009-001031-) and c. 255m to the SSW (CL008-045016-).
