The National Monuments Service's description

At the foot of an E-facing slope near the N end of a short narrow N–S valley, the floor of which is wet and rushy. A pasture ridge rises at the valley mouth to the S. The W, N and E sides of the valley are enclosed by low cliffs and bluffs. A classic horseshoe-shaped burnt mound (ext. dims. 16.6m N–S; 10.3m E–W; max. H 1.9m) open to the W where a small spring emerges from the foot of a low limestone bluff. Two pairs of earthfast stones occur in the trough area (5m N–S; 4.9m E–W). The first, a pair of perpendicularly set earthfast slabs (L 1.4m; Wth 0.15m; H 0.2m and L 1.2m; Wth 0.2m; H 0.18m) which may be the remains of a trough, lie just SE of the spring. The other pair (L 1.4m; Wth 0.15m; H 0.2m and L 1.2m; Wth 0.2m; H 0.18m), which could be remnants of a second trough stand 1m apart at N just inside the mound. At ENE there is a depression in the mound (Wth 2m; D 0.4m). Compiled by: Mary Tunney and Ros Ó Maoldúin Date of upload: 29 September 2021
