Ringfort - cashel

The National Monuments Service's description

On a level terrace of partially improved pastureland on a moderately steep E-facing slope on the W side of the Caher valley, within a large multiperiod field system (CL004-016001-). Hachured and named ‘Lismorahaun’ on the 1840 and 1916 eds. of the OS 6-inch map. O’Donovan gave the Irish form as Lios Mhóracháin which he translates as ‘Morachan’s fort’ (https://www.logainm.ie/en/5809). Westropp variously recorded it as a ‘well built rectangular fort’ (Westropp 1900, 423) and as a ‘well built ring’ (Westropp 1901, 14). He further noted that it may be the ‘Caherpolla’ referred to in a 1545 grant, Inquisition of 1624 and Settlement grant of 1666 (Westropp 1900, 423).

A small rectangular enclosure (int. dims. 17m N-S; 15m E-W) defined by a collapsed stone wall spread (Wth 1.6-2.9m; H 0.3-0.6m) with a few cashel-like outer-facing stones visible at E, and overlain by a later field wall. The S half of the W wall is gone and there is no trace of an original entrance.
A square cashel is located c. 150m to the N.
