Ringfort - cashel

The National Monuments Service's description

On high rocky ground in scrub. Hachured on the 1842 and 1915 OS 6-inch maps. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the RMP (1996). Referred to by Westropp (1905, 349) as one of two ‘nearly circular’ and ‘nearly-levelled cahers’ with ‘walls of good, slab masonry’ (T c. 2.1m) ‘only rarely a few courses high’ (int. dims. c. 30-31m). Westropp also notes that the ‘gate of the western fort faced the S.S.W’ and a hut site (CL004-065001-) is located to the S (ibid.).

A circular overgrown cashel (est. int. dims. c. 30m E-W; c. 30m N-S) defined by a stone wall visible from E to ESE (Wth 1.5m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1.1m) and at S (Wth c. 2m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.1m). In the interior there are traces of walls extending towards the centre from the ESE, SE and S. Another cashel (CL004-065003-) is located c. 40m to the ESE, a hut site (CL004-065001-) is located c. 50m to the S and a cairn (CL004-059----) is located c. 100m to the WSW.
