The National Monuments Service's description
On level but exposed rough grazing overlooking the sea c. 300m to the W. An enclosure (CL004-046----) is located c. 65m to the ESE. Not recorded on the first edition of the OS 6-inch map but indicated on the later Cassini edition (1915). Listed as ‘cashel’ in the RMP (1996). Probably referred to by Westropp (1905, 345) as one of ‘some seven or eight defaced forts at a place called Shanbally in Ballyryan, towards the sea’
A subcircular area (int. diams. 23m E-W; 20m N-S) is defined by a later drystone wall ((H c. 1.5m; T 0.8-1m) which is built on a spread of stones which may be the remains of an older cashel wall. A large glacial boulder stands outside at S.
