The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on the S-facing slope of a small promontory projecting W into the sea, c. 35m from the foreshore. Indicated and named ‘Gortagreenan fort’ on the 1842 and 1915 eds. of the OS 6-inch map. Named ‘Gort an Ghrianáin’ on Robinson’s map (1977) and recorded as ‘Gortagreenaun fort’ by Westropp (1911, 353). A poorly preserved oval cashel (int. dims. 35.6m E–W from face of wall at W to crest of stone spread at E; 30m N–S face to face) defined by a low grassed-over stony spread (Wth 2.6m) with sporadic inner and outer facing-stones. At SE two large boulders on the line of the enclosure may mark an entrance (Wth 1.8m). It is overlain NW–SSW by a later field wall.
