Le Crédit Foncier de Madagascar (1919-1954) filiale de la Compagnie des Messageries Maritimes ouvre son agence au Port en 1926. Les Messageries maritimes, compagnie armant des navires commerciaux et marchands en Méditerranée, sur l'Atlantique et dans l'océan Indien, sont étroitement liées à l'histoire du Port. Peu de temps avant la seconde guerre mondiale, le Crédit Foncier de Madagascar ferme ses portes et le petit immeuble accueille un hôtel, propriété de la famille Wai-Hai, puis des bureaux de la Marine Nationale avant d'être désaffecté et racheté par la ville du Port en 2001.
Description
L'édifice est construit en maçonnerie de moellons de basalte enduits, l'étage sur rue comporte un balcon en bois filant formant galerie. La charpente en bois à quatre pans est couverte de tuiles mécaniques plates, provenant probablement d'un lest de bateau. La parcelle est fermée d'un mur de moellons badigeonné. Au-dessus des deux portes et de la fenêtre à rez-de-chaussée on peut encore lire la raison sociale de l'établissement bancaire peinte sur l'enduit ocre-jaune.

History
The Crédit Foncier de Madagascar (1919-1954), a subsidiary of the Compagnie des Messageries Maritimes, opened its agency in Port in 1926. The Messageries Maritimes, a company operating commercial and merchant ships in the Mediterranean, on the Atlantic and in the Indian Ocean, were closely linked to the history of Port. Shortly before the Second World War, the Crédit Foncier de Madagascar closed its doors and the small building then housed a hotel, owned by the Wai-Hai family, then offices of the Marine Nationale before being decommissioned and repurchased by the town of Port in 2001.
Description
The building is constructed in rubble stone masonry of basalt, rendered. The storey facing the street has a wooden balcony running the length of the façade forming a gallery. The wooden roof structure with four pitches is covered with flat mechanical tiles, probably originating from ship ballast. The plot is enclosed by a wall of rubble stone, whitewashed. Above the two doors and the window at ground level the business name of the banking establishment can still be read, painted on the ochre-yellow render.
